  Starting life in the 1920's as a timber mill, The Old Mill was later converted to a shell-crushing plant, processing shell from the nearby Tairua harbour. Shells were kiln dried, then pulverised into powder and bagged as farm lime. Having various uses and additions over the years, The Old Mill's latest make-over is certainly its most stylish yet it's unique history and connection to the harbour remain intact.

  The town of Tairua is on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. As well as the safe sandy harbour, which is ideal for families, there is also a first rate surf beach.
